| This was the Stage Set from the Tercentenary, empty, from
the top of the 3,000-seat Auditorium. The Designer, Jon Kellet, wanted a
Stage halfway out into the River Derwent and we built the auditorium
out to meet it with a narrower river flowing between |
 |
| Here's the Stage again, this time with most of the Cast on
it |
 |
| An absolutely magnificent fireworks was the Finale, with
most of the audience and definitely all the Cast in tears on the Last
Night. This pic was taken from the back of the Party Arena which you saw in
daylight
here. The evening was in two halves - the Party & the Show |
 |
| Who said a Waterfall in a tent's not possible? This from
another event in 1998. 1,000 guests dined & danced in a magic Midsummer
Night's Dream tent on the South Lawn |
 |
| Here's something from the 1990 Ball - transforming a statue
into a rock garden and an earlier (smaller) waterfall. A disadvantage was
the effect it had on guests with tables near to it - they kept wanting to go
to the Loo |
 |
| Also from 1990, the main courtyard, roofed over by a
cantilevered structure, with a dance floor surrounding the fountain. Look at
the magnificent flower 'structure' above it |
 |
| This was a scene from the 1990 Dining Area. Yes, I know it
looks a bit dated now but it wasn't then, and I was very proud of it
(I still am!) |
 |
| In 1990 again, part of the performance was this huge stage
which floated towards the guests, followed (of course) by a big fireworks
finale |
 |
| Here's another one from the 1998 event - showing the
marvellously impressive flower trees on each table |
 |
| No apologies for what looks like a very boring tent on the
South Lawn - from the outside. But this belied the beautiful Midsummer
Night's Dream setting inside. Never declare your whole hand till you
absolutely have to. The guests had no clue as to what they were going to
walk into |
